Rapunzel Doll With Braided Flower Hair

If you have been waiting for a doll pattern that skips the fiddly assembly, this is the one to reach for. Amigurumi Land built the whole thing as a no-sew make, so the parts flow together instead of leaving you with a pile of limbs to attach at the end. The showpiece is the hair, a long golden braid with tiny flowers worked right into it.

The dress does a lot of quiet work too, with puff sleeves, a laced bodice, and a white picot trim skimming the hem. It uses Yarn Art Jeans and a 1.75mm hook, which gives you tight, tidy stitches and a finished doll around 20 cm tall. Plan on a couple of relaxed evenings rather than one sitting, since the small hook rewards a slower pace.

What You'll Need

The supply list is short, though the fine hook means this one leans on patience more than fancy materials.

  • Yarn Yarn Art Jeans. A soft cotton and acrylic blend in a light sport weight. You will want a skin tone for the body, gold for the hair, lilac for the dress and shoes, and a little white for the trim and lacing.
  • Hook 1.75mm. Much smaller than the yarn label calls for, and that is the point. The tight fabric keeps stuffing from peeking through and holds the doll's shape crisply.
  • Safety eyes 5mm safety eyes. Small enough to suit the doll's scale. Embroidered eyes are the safer swap if this is headed for a baby or toddler.
  • Stuffing Polyester fiberfill. A 20 cm doll does not need much, and adding it in small pinches as you go beats packing it in at the end.
  • Extras Tapestry needle, scissors, and stitch markers. The markers matter more than usual here, since the doll is worked in continuous rounds.

Give yourself a warm up round

A 1.75mm hook with sport weight yarn feels tight if you usually work amigurumi at 3mm or above. Crochet a small swatch or a spare limb first so your hands settle into the tension before you start on the head, where every stitch shows.

Set the eyes before you close the head

Safety eyes only go in while there is still an opening to reach through and lock the backs. Once the head is stuffed and closed, that window is gone. Hold them in place unsecured first and look at the face from a distance, since eye spacing changes the whole expression.

Reach for the invisible decrease

The pattern calls for it, and on a doll this size the difference is obvious. Working through the front loops only of both stitches closes the shaping cleanly instead of leaving little gaps along the cheeks and chin.

Braid loosely and pin before you commit

The hair is the piece everyone will look at first. A loose braid drapes better than a tight one, and pinning the flowers along it before securing them lets you space them evenly rather than discovering a bare patch at the end.
