Lacy Layering Tops

If you want a top that drapes softly over a cami or bralette and feels great on a warm afternoon, start here. Both of these lean on openwork stitches and lightweight yarn, so they breathe well and pack down small for travel.

Summer Crochet Top

Jess Coppom of Make and Do Crew designed this one with her mom, and it is the dreamy lace V-neck I keep wanting to make in three different colors. It's worked as two simple rectangles, so the construction stays beginner friendly while the iris and boxed shell stitches do all the pretty work.

It uses Lion Brand LB Collection Cotton Bamboo, a light weight 3 yarn, on a 4 mm hook, with sizes from S through 3X. The shown color is Magnolia, a soft warm cream that lets the stitch pattern really show.

The Sweetpea Top

Rachel Misner of Evelyn and Peter Crochet built this top around a delicate V-stitch repeat that gives it that airy, spring like feel. The cap sleeve and V-neck combo is so flattering, and the teal version pictured here is exactly the color I would reach for over a white cami all summer.

It's made with Lion Brand Truboo, a light weight 3 yarn with a beautiful sheen, on a 4 mm hook, and comes in sizes S through 5X. The pattern is rated intermediate because of the seaming and stitch repeats, so it's a good next step if you've already finished a basic top.

Fitted Crop Tops & Tanks

These three lean fitted, with thicker straps and a closer silhouette that pairs beautifully with high waisted jeans, linen pants, or a flowy maxi skirt. All three are beginner friendly and have generous size ranges.

Easy Crochet Tank Top

Alnaar at Leelee Knits designed this scoop neck tank as a simple, cute project that comes together fast, and the rich coffee bean color shown here is honestly so good. It's worked flat in two panels from the bottom up with a one row repeat, which is exactly the kind of mindless project I want for movie nights.

It uses Paintbox Yarns Simply DK on a 5 mm hook, with adjustable chain straps you can size to your own shoulders. Sizes run XS through 2XL, and there's a video tutorial if you want to follow along.

Mya Crop Top

Grace of For The Frills calls this a beginner pattern but designed it with four interchangeable necklines (square, sweetheart, bow, and gathered), which I love. The grit stitch gives the fabric this gorgeous crumpled texture, and the dusty plum colorway pictured here looks so pretty against bare shoulders.

It's worked in Drops Cotton Merino, a DK weight cotton wool blend, on a 5 mm hook, with 19 sizes from XXS+ through 5XL+. The body is one rectangle plus two straps, so the construction is genuinely simple.

Square Neck Ribbed Crop Top

Another favorite from Grace at For The Frills, this one trades the textured look for clean vertical ribs and a modern square neckline. The ivory version pictured here is the one I would make first, because it's that perfect closet staple that pairs with everything from denim to a flowy skirt.

It uses WeCrochet CotLin, a cotton linen blend in DK weight, on a 4.5 mm hook, and is worked lengthwise in one piece with back loop half doubles for the ribbing. Sizes run XS through 5XL with a fitted, slightly cropped fit.
