Danny is the kind of dragon you want to make the moment you see him. Nicole Chase designed this blue-bodied beauty with teal wings, ridged spines running down the back, and shell stitch edging on the ears that makes the finishing feel really polished. He sits at about 5.5 inches or stands nearly 8 inches tall. It's one of those patterns where the photo tutorials really carry you through.

Nicole calls this advanced beginner level, and I think that's right. You'll work in continuous rounds using worsted weight yarn on a 4mm hook. The pattern assembles 11 separate pieces, so set aside a solid afternoon for finishing.

Mini Dragon

Amy's Mini Dragon from Little Muggles is the one I keep coming back to when I want a quick, satisfying make. It fits right in the palm of your hand and uses five colors: a main body, a cream snout and belly patch, brown accents, yellow horns, and a cheerful row of orange spikes along the back. The tiny scale makes it feel like a little gem.

Vincent the Dragon

Vincent is a statement piece. Kati Brown designed him to be large enough to drape over your shoulder or hang off the edge of a shelf with his tail swinging. If you've been looking for a dragon that commands a room, this is the one. The pattern uses wire shaping and surface crochet details that give him a really sculpted look.

You'll use three colors of size 6 Premier Parfait Chunky on a 5mm hook, with a jumbo size option if you want to go big with a 9mm hook and size 7 yarn.

Kyra's no-sew dragon is one of her all-time favorite patterns and you can feel that enthusiasm in the tutorial. The combination of Loops and Threads Chenille in a deep agave green with Big Twist Baby Bear in sage and vanilla gives this dragon a really earthy, dreamy look. The wings are done in the darker accent color with a scalloped edge made from clusters of double crochets and slip stitches, and she adds surface crochet webbing lines for extra detail.
